The course
Lone Tree Golf Course, located an hour east of San Francisco along the San Juaquin River Delta, is Northern California public golf at its finest. The course has unending scenic vistas located on the North and adjacent to Mount Diablo State Park. The Parkland course is characterized by rolling fairways lined with mature indigeneous trees. In 2019, this par-72 layout, converted all putting surfaces to "Champion Bermuda" a warm season grass. The surfaces have been ecstatically received by members and guests with putts rolling true and smooth whether in peak growth during Summer heat or during Winter dormancy where they lose their color but remain firm, fast and fun!
Fairway and greenside bunkers are modest in number, but strategic in position. We are excited, at this writing, Winter 2020, our golf course maintenance contractor, Sierra Golf Management, is in the middle of a greenside bunker renovation restoring the sand and drainage quality of our bunkers! In addition, major Tree pruning and clean up has been an additional Winter project that is making the Jewel of the Delta since 1934 shine even brighter.

Other History Tidbits
Since 1934...
Originally opening as a nine hole course, Lone Tree was built on open hillsides adjacent to Mount Diablo State Park and was defined by the grassy hills the course was set upon. Nine more holes were constructed in the early 1950's and through the years various trees were added which gave the course the definition it now knows. In 1990 the decision was made to redo the majority of green complexes to sand based greens, and the task was successfully undertaken. The current greens on holes #12 and 15 are not only from the original construction, but are the two smallest greens on the course requiring golfers to have sharp accuracy.
A little known history tidbit...
Back in the early days of Lone Tree there was a superb golfer by the name of Elmer Clites. The Antioch City Championship is named after Elmer and this tournament is a Northern California Golf Association Point event. Top amateurs come to play in this event each year from Monterey, Southern California, Sacramento and throughout the Bay Area. Local lore has it that Elmer would play with one of the greatest professional golfers of the era, Ben Hogan, when he was in Northern California. A testimony to Elmer's skill as a player comes from the comment that Mr. Hogan frequently made; "If I had Elmer's wedge and short game I would have certainly won several more majors".
